ARMALITH Technical Denim: Engineered for Long-Term Performance

When ARMALITH was developed, its creator had a clear objective: design the ideal textile aesthetically credible, structurally resistant, comfortable, and built to last. The combination of UHMWPE, Lycra®, and cotton within a patented single-layer construction produces a composite denim unlike any other. With abrasion resistance certified up to 120 km/h, ARMALITH offers a durability profile that conventional protective textiles cannot match.

The ARMALITH Architexture: The Foundation of a Durable Fabric

To understand what makes ARMALITH technically distinctive, it helps to start at the beginning. Around twenty years ago, Pierre-Henry Servajean a fabric professional and motorcyclist based in the Tarn region of France had a crash that made the problem clear. His clothing offered no meaningful protection against asphalt abrasion.

Around 70% of motorcyclists choose jeans over leather suits or dedicated riding trousers. The reasons are straightforward: leather retains heat in summer, restricts movement, and many riders find its aesthetic too specific. Comfort is a priority. However, standard denim provides no meaningful abrasion protection in a crash. Jeans have the style but in a fall, they do not protect the skin against burns or injury.

Pierre-Henry identified a clear gap. No fabric on the market combined resistance and comfort. Rather than accepting that limitation, he set out to close it. His approach: combine a non-textile reinforcement fiber with cotton. He evaluated Kevlar® noting its UV degradation and heat retention as well as ceramic and carbon. He ultimately selected UHMWPE, a high-performance polyethylene derived from aerospace research.

Armalith Fabric

The fabric is constructed in a single layer using a patented concentric yarn architecture the “architexture” integrating 57% cotton, 10% Lycra®, and 33% UHMWPE without any protective lining. No lining. No added layers. The protection is built into the fabric structure itself.

ARMALITH's Longevity: A Scientific Foundation

Why UHMWPE specifically? It is 33% more abrasion-resistant than Kevlar® in standardized testing. Unlike Kevlar®, its performance does not degrade under UV exposure a significant advantage for a textile designed for daily outdoor use on sun-exposed roads. Furthermore, UHMWPE offers flexibility, making it well suited to a construction that combines durability, structural resistance, and wearing comfort.

In terms of abrasion resistance, UHMWPE significantly outperforms both Teflon (PTFE) and Kevlar®. It also has a moisture regain rate of 0%. As a result, UV radiation cannot trigger the oxidation process that progressively weakens Kevlar® fibers exposed to humidity and sunlight. Prior to ARMALITH, UHMWPE had not been used in clothing textiles. Its applications were limited to the automotive, offshore, aerospace, and defense industries.

ARMALITH is manufactured to a strict licensed specification. Spinning, weaving, and finishing are all subject to rigorous quality control. Over two decades, Pierre-Henry Servajean validated ARMALITH through real-world use via his motorcycle clothing brand BOLID’STER, and through multiple independent laboratory and field resistance tests.

Pierre-Henry collaborated with experts from the CEA (French Atomic Energy Commission) in Bordeaux during the early incubation phase of the project. Their expertise in thermal shielding helped structure the intellectual property framework behind ARMALITH. The project was subsequently incubated at Bordeaux Unitec, leading to a patent application.

Performance and Creative Freedom at the Core of ARMALITH

Finding a pair of jeans that combines fit, comfort, protection, and durability over decades is a rare proposition. That is precisely what ARMALITH is designed to make possible.
This composite denim brings together three fibers, each contributing a specific set of properties. Cotton provides softness, breathability, and hydrophilic comfort next to the skin. Lycra® contributes elasticity, moisture management, and shrink resistance which directly supports the fabric’s long-term dimensional stability. UHMWPE reinforces the overall structure, delivering the abrasion resistance and tear strength that define ARMALITH’s protective performance.

Together, these properties produce a fabric that is both structurally resistant and comfortable to wear. With a density of 0.95 kg/L the lowest of any available reinforcement fiber ARMALITH provides full freedom of movement without added weight. Style, comfort, and protection are retained simultaneously, in a single layer.

ARMALITH is available in seven technical denim grades, each defined by its abrasion resistance level evaluated against the CE-13595-2 standard. The MOBILITY grade is designed for everyday urban use and light micro-mobility such as cycling or scootering. The MOTO GP grade is engineered for high-speed motorcycle riding. Each grade maintains the single-layer construction and base material composition that defines ARMALITH across the range.

ARMALITH is built on a streamlined global supply chain. From fiber production in Asia to spinning, weaving, and garment manufacturing, the process follows a logical, forward-moving flow toward end markets in Europe and the US reducing unnecessary transport while maintaining full control over quality and performance.
With ARMALITH, designers and manufacturers have the technical foundation to create garments that are genuinely built to last.
